  2. A beautiful “behold song” about seeing/sensing the beautiful stillness.

  3. A Prayer

    Behold!
A tiny pinprick of light appears.
    Far in the distance.
    I see it.
A glimmer, a flicker at first.
    Then it grows.
    I see. Behold.

    I cannot explain it.
I cannot explain why it appears now
    And not then, when
    I felt I needed it
    Most.
What can I do but see?
    Behold!

    Behold.

    Light is.
    Let it be.
    Darkness is.
    Let it be.
    Light is in darkness,
    And darkness surrounds light,
    And neither disappears.
    Behold.

I do not need to understand, nor do I need to
Complain that I cannot explain or contain.
It is enough now to see.

    Behind me are words.
    Behind me are arguments.
Behind me are concepts and systems that worked so
    Well for so
    Long.
    They were fine,
As fine then as they are unnecessary
    Now. I leave them
    Behind me. Behold.

    Before me, behold:
Light, a light made more precious by the darkness
    Into which it comes.
Light which I see, by which I see.
I have forgotten how to argue and complain.
I have forgotten how to contest and protest.
For this moment at least, I am all eyes, all ears,
All skin, all smell, all taste.
    Behold.

In this quiet light, even enemies are friends.
Questions are answers, and answers questions.
I never could have received this before.
Even now, I do not know it:
I only receive it and hold it
    Hovering upon open hands.
    Behold.

Behold the bush burns but is not consumed.
Behold the fire purifies what it touches.
Behold losses are gains, and gains, losses.
    Behold, last are first.
    Behold, saving is losing;
    Behold, giving is saving, and
    Falling, rising; descending, ascending;
    Serving, leading; dying, living.

Behold, looking back, and all is transformed.
Behold, looking forward, and all shall be well.
Behold, this moment! Forever in between,
Most precious lover, naked now, welcoming us
    All in.

    Behold, God.
    In all, all in all;
All in one, one in all,
    Life so alive and
Goodness so good that death and evil
Are … where? Where did they go?
    Swallowed up? Abounded?
    Flooded? Overcome?
    Detoxified? Extinguished? Vanquished?
    Behold.

    Behold how blind I was.
    Behold how blind I am.
Behold how good you have been,
    How faithful,
    Now and forever.
    Amen. Behold. Amen.

  4. “Ephphatha (Be Opened)”

To the birds outside your window
    To the river floating by
To the fact you’re God’s beloved
    Be opened, precious child.

To the ones around you, broken
To the chained, who long to fly
    To those regretting words unspoken
    Be opened, precious child

    Be opened to the fullness
    Be opened to the Word
    Be opened to your story
    Be opened, child, be heard

To the beauty of each moment
To this wondrous gift of life
    To all creation, singing praises
    Be opened, precious child

    Be opened to the fullness
    Be opened to the Word
    Be opened to your story
    Be opened, child, be heard

    Because when ordinary becomes divine
    Miracles come from open minds
Revealing ears and tongues and eyes
    We never knew we had

    Be opened to the fullness
    Be opened to the Word
    Be opened to your story
    Be opened, child, be heard

To the song within each person
To a faith found deep inside
    To a willing, trusting spirit
    Be opened, precious child

    Be opened to the fullness
    Be opened to the Word
    Be opened to your story
    Be opened, child, be heard
